Wordpress eCommerce

Storefront Themes - Premium WP-e-Commerce Themes

Sid hasn't used the Wordpress website component very much in the past, but more and more lately it has helped make rapid deployment of user-friendly websites very easy.  If you have a simple website idea that needs regular updates or posts, then Wordpress has a quick learning curve and is quite "widget-friendly."

Recently, Sid launched a website for Black Market Comedy utilizing Wordpress. The first reason was that it was *free.  That is, the Wordpress blogging engine  is free to download and install on nearly any decent web server; you only need to worry about paying for the server space and the time to develop and update your website. If you are happy with a simple theme (and there are many free themes available, too) and have some webspace available, then you can plug in Wordpress and start adding content in just a few minutes.

And what if you want a really simple website, easy to manage, but you want to start selling merchandise or downloads?  Sid initially would pursuade a client to look towards a more focused eCommerce software, like X-Cart, or if the budget was tight, then another Open-Source alternative that ties into Joomla might be the way to go (Sid's faves are VirtueMart and Maian Media). But just recently, a customer who is already familiar with Wordpress, and already has quite a bit of content on a Wordpress blog, was looking to monetize some of their content, already available as downloads.

This video was just a happy accident. While lounging around one day, a package arrived in the mail that just happened to be a Limited Edition Bernie Worrell Bobblehead, Signed by Bernie Worrell himself, no less!! Well, since Sid built Bernie's website (as well as his latest SuperGroup launches, SociaLybrium.com and WesNWorrell.com), Sid decided to take a new photo to highlight just how cool this ceramic bobblehead really was. One photo turned into two or three, and all of a sudden, Sid had his chinzy little Powershot a490 turned to "Movie Mode" and the 640x480 SD clip you see here was born.

Charles Guy Music - Acoustic World Guitar

Charles Guy plays acoustic latin-flavor music around the Rogue Valley, and actually has quite a repotoire of worldly-inspired music. (Is that even a word?)  His latest self-produced CD, Sakes Alive, highlights much of his latin-influenced work, and has guest appearance by Daniel Sperry and Jeffry Smith. Prior to that album, a project titled A Thousand Suns: Spark of Light, is a blend of down-home southerly acoustic guitar and Celtic influenced flute and vocals.

Setta Grip and Lighting

SettaGripAndLighting.com is a Small Business Static Brochure Website. Setta Grip & Lighting is is a family-owned company that provides Grip & Lighting Equipment and Service to the Motion Picture Production Industry, primarily in Southern Oregon, and in the surrounding Pacific Northwest. The company is owned by Mark Ursetta, who Sid worked with directly to develop the layout and content. The design was from Funky Visions, who also provided the Flash Header that Sid then tweaked out to color and customize the website title.

Rogue Rambler - Local Online Calendar

Some folks at the Sneak Preview were looking to build an online calendar to host information about events in southern Oregon, particularly Ashland, Medford, and Talent, OR. The idea was simple enough, create a website of upcoming music events, community events, theater showtimes, and miscellaneous events such as Art Walks and Wine Tastings. What makes this website a little cooler is that you can view all the events in all towns, or sort by town, or view events only at particular venues. This just gives website visitors more ways to find the information they are looking for, which is basically, what to do with themselves for entertainment in this southern Oregon valley.

Wright Chevrolet - Local Auto Dealer

WrightChevroletInc.com is a Local Auto Dealer Website for a Central-Eastern Oregon company in the town of Fossil. You may have one time visited the John Day Fossil Beds nearby, or possibly you enjoy Painted Hills Beef on your BBQ. Well, the town of Fossil is right in the middle of these scenic, rural beauties of Oregon, and Wright Chevrolet caters to the surrounding farm communities in Wheeler, Gilliam, Morrow, Wasco, and other nearby counties with new and used GM/Chevrolets. While they are the main resource for farm truck sales and service in the area, the main goal of Wright Chevrolet with their website was to allow their customers to browse Wright's Pre-Owned or Used Cars inventory before making the drive to the dealership. For some of Wright's customers, it can be over an hour drive each way - a long way to go if you find out the car you were looking for is already sold.
