Small Business eCommerce Starter Website
PickledPlanet.com is a Small Business eCommerce Starter Website*, which is basically an easy way for a small company to step into selling products on the web through their own disribution. Pickled Planet makes organic raw sauerkraut in small handmade batches, selling them in local markets and grocery stores in Northern California and Southern Oregon. Pretty much from Chico, CA to Eugene, OR. Relatively young, the company starting selling off the shelves in 2003, and in 2009 wanted to launch an internet sales channel.
Sid actually met the founder of Pickled Planet while shooting some video with the Illustrated Sandwich crew (now found working with DenizenTV ). The Illustrated Sandwich crew were shooting an episode of the Independent Short Show, awesomely enough - the particular episode has been accepted to screen at the Ashland Independent Film Festival 2009. Sid heard about this locally made sauerkraut during the video shoot, and was intrigued.The owner and master kraut craftsman told Sid where he could pick some up.
A few months later, at an Oktoberfest event put on by the Ashland Elks Lodge, Sid and Pickled Planet ran into one another again, this time Sid had tried some Veda Kraut and was excited to let Pickled Planet know how good it was as they enjoy brats, beers, and live polka music. Somewhere in the conversation, the need for assistance with a GoDaddy shopping cart and plug-n-play website template let to a collaboration.
We attempted to incorporate the two GoDaddy templates together. Their web-store plugin is configured seperately from their website template builder, so to even get them to look the same was a big enough pain, let alone assigning the same navigation menu over the entire "website". As I say, we attempted, but soon scrapped the GoDaddy Hosting altogether and Sid built a simple 5-page website, helped Pickled Planet set up and configure a PayPal account, and then incorporated the PayPal Shopping Cart functions into an easy to navigate and pleasing website. Eventually, we added a couple extra info pages, not only to help boost our Google rankings, but to offer web visitors more information on why this organic raw sauerkraut is so much better tasting and better for them than general canned sauerkraut that you most often find at the grocery store or local hot dog stand.
